Glenn Francis Kiplinger
September 29, 1930 - November 17, 2018

Glenn Kiplinger passed away peacefully at home on November 17, 2018.  He was 88.

Born in Indianapolis, he was the son of Glenn D. and Iva Kiplinger. He attended Butler University there, where he met his future wife Martha Lee Peterson. They were married in 1953, and had four children – Jeffrey (of Hudson NY), Jonathan (of Newtown PA), Jason (of Sarasota FL) and Jennifer (of Concow, CA). Martha passed away in 2011; they had been married for 58 years.

Glenn received a B.Sc. in Pharmacy at Butler and went on to receive a Ph.D. in Pharmacology at the University of Michigan in 1958. He began teaching, which led him to the University of Texas in Galveston, and continuing his academic interests received his M.D. there in 1969. His career directing clinical research, first at Eli Lilly and later at the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical companies, ended with his retirement in DATE.

Following retirement, Glenn and Martha moved to Sarasota, and Glenn soon developed an interest in intellectual property law. He earned a J.D. from Stetson University in Tampa in 1997 Unfortunately, a stroke in 1999 left him partially disabled, and he fully retired. Always intellectually restless, he served on Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s Institutional Review Board. He and Martha were generous and energetic contributors to the hospital’s Foundation.

An avid traveler, Glenn had many adventures with friends, family, and a beloved series of Jack Russell terriers. A few years’ secondment at Eli Lilly’s U.K. location gave him a lifelong love of Britain’s land and history, and with his family he traveled the waters of Britain and Ireland by canal boat for several summers. He loved hiking and completed several “long walks” including a walk across England.

Glenn will be missed by all who knew him.
