James William Decherd
April 18, 1943 - December 21, 1989

Dr. James William Decherd, of Washington, D.C., died unexpectedly on December 21, 1989.

Dr. Decherd was born in Galveston and grew up in Austin where he attended St. Paul Lutheran School, O'Henry Junior High, Austin High School, the University of Texas, and the Univeristy of Texas Medical School in Galveston.  He received Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honors in school, served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force for two years, and had practiced dermatology in Washington, D.C. since 1973.

He is survived by his son, James Smoot Decherd of Washington, D.C.; his mother, Mrs. Helen Decherd, widow of Dr. George M. Decherd III; his brothers, Dr. George M. Decherd IV and Dr. Jonathan F. Decherd, as well as their wives, Mary and Holly; nephews, Jonathan, Jr, David Michael, George V., Kendall and Benjamin; and nieces, Anne-Marie and Caroline Decherd, all of Austin.

Graveside services held on Tuesday, December 26, 1989, at 10:00 AM at Austin Memorial Park with the Reverend Monsignor Richard McCabe officiating.

In lies of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to a favorite charity.
